He has read books and attended seminars put on by some gurus who make more money selling information about real estate investing than they do investing in real estate BUT at least he is taking the initiative to learn more. This is more than most people will do.<br /><br />Old man owns his home. Young man wants to buy real estate as an investment….apartment buildings, office buildings…that type stuff. Old man has no experience in this area. During the conversation old man says to young man…"are you doing anymore of that real estate nonsense?"<br /><br />By "nonsense" I know old man was referring to attending the "get r*i*c*h quick" type seminars and not a condemnation of real estate investing. BUT it came across as a condemnation of the young man's process of educating himself about something new….something that could improve his life and the lives of his family.<br /><br />Unfortunately, you probably have people like that in your life. You may BE a person like that in someone else's life. People in your "box" don't want you getting out! <br /><br />You know the type. Negative about any attempt you might make to improve your life…to be different…to stand out….to be more successful than they are.<br /><br />I heard a great analogy for this by attending a free investment seminar. I knew this guy would be advocating some risky financial moves but I figured since I was in the seminar giving business myself, that I might be able to learn something useful. I did.<br /><br />The people you associate with most are probably just like you. You have similar educational backgrounds, families and incomes.. You live in houses and drive cars of similar value. You attend the same church…your kids attend the same schools…you shop in the same stores. You get the idea.<br /><br />One could say you are in the same "box" or rut. <br /><br />The analogy continues...<br /><br />Unfortunately, the "instructions" on how to get out of your "box" are posted on the "outside" of your "box" where you can't read them. You'll need the help of someone who has already made it out, to "read" you the instructions so you can get out too.<br /><br />It's not enough to get that help though. You'll probably have to deal with your "boxmates" who would rather you stick around to keep them company in their sad little "box."<br /><br />In listening to the conversation between old man and young man I immediately flashed on the image of young may starting to climb out of the box and old man reaching up and grabbing him by the belt to pull him back in.<br /><br />Sad but all too common I'm sure. If any of this sounds familiar you might have some hard decisions to make.<br /><br />If completely getting rid of a negative person from your life is not possible (spouse, relative, employer) then you might have to clam up about your goals, dreams and desires.<br />Discuss them only with people who will support you or preferably with people who have already done what you want to do.<br /><br />Author Dan Kennedy has coined the phrase "mediocre majority" to describe most people. This is a group you want to avoid.<br /><br />So, no matter what you want to accomplish, be it changing your life to get out of debt…starting a business…going back to school (imagine at your age!)…investing in real estate…mystery shopping…losing weight…taking piano lessons or anything else, simply get started and keep the pie hole shut! After all your life is on display, being picked apart and trying to show off all your qualities in front of someone who will or will not hire you. But with some education about some common <em><a href="http://ujoinfree.com/?id=397">job interview mistakes</a></em> you can get that sleep the night before and abound with confidence as you try to land that position.<br /><br />I can't stress this enough, being prepared is essential in successful interviewing. I have gone into an interview thinking I can handle anything they throw at me. But you know you get caught off guard by some easy question like, 'What are your strengths and weaknesses". Man, the first time I was asked that question I was dumb founded and it showed in my answer.<br />The interviewer has a system of question to get a sneak peek inside who you are and what you have to offer. After getting myself prepared I was really excited and could not wait for my next interview knowing how to increase my odds to land that position.<br /> <br />Similarly, no matter how long you plan to keep the job you're applying for, never let on that you might not be as permanent an employee as your potential boss may want. Watch your words carefully to avoid letting on the length of time in which you really plan to be employed by your interviewer's organization. If you're planning to stick around for a while, that's great. If not, try to minimize the potential damage without lying. Even temporary workers are expected to show some ambition in regards to their careers, and long-term employment is traditionally seen as an indicator of reliability. If your work history shows that you've been bouncing between jobs frequently, prepare some good reasons for why you've been so nomadic in regards to employment, preferably with a good, rational explanation for leaving each job, if possible.<br /><br /> <br />Preparation helps eliminate job interview mistakes and is something that people often overlook. You can't go into it without some sort of a plan of action. If your resume doesn't have the best information about your work history, you'll want to have some answers to try and explain them. A little research into the organization you're trying to work for (as well as researching the person interviewing you) can go a long way. Also, if you really want to make an impression on your interviewer, bring a small list of question about the position you would like him or her to answer for you. This will show them your really interested and that you are going that extra mile, a quality all employers like. <br /><br />All it takes to land the job that you've set your eyes on is some self-confidence, a little know-how and good pre-interview planning. In addition, in today's job market with downsizing, rightsizing, layoffs, mergers and acquisitions, etc. your job skills and job-hunting skills need to be constantly updated and refined.<br /><br /><br />Commando Tactic #1 - Problem solvers get jobs! <br />All companies have problems. Demonstrate that you can solve a company's problems and the world will beat a path to your door. <br /><br />What type of issues do companies have? <br />* Sales are down<br />* Expenses are up<br />* Market share is decreasing<br />* Layoffs are coming<br />* The company is in acquisition mode<br />* New departments/divisions are being formed<br />* Someone is retiring or going on leave<br />* The company is entering a new market<br />* A new product has been developed<br />* New ad campaigns are being discussed<br />* A department that was outsourced is now being brought in-house (ad agency, Public Relations)<br />* They are in need of new leadership<br />* Assignments/goals/objectives are not being met<br />* The competition is continuing to gain market share.<br /><br />At this moment, dozens of companies in your surrounding area are in immediate need of someone like you to help solve their problems; you just need to find them. That leads us to broadcast letters.<br /><br />Commando Tactic #2 - Broadcast letters uncover positions in the "hidden" job market.<br />A Broadcast or Marketing letter is an excellent way to uncover positions that have not been announced yet. Many people call this the hidden job market. Once you tap into the hidden job market, your chance of success increase dramatically.<br /><br />Why? Because you are not competing with a "million" other people that answered the same ad. There are no other people because there was no ad!<br /><br />Broadcast letters can help generate leads for you because companies always problems that need to be solved. As they say, timing is everything so if your letter arrives at the right time, you may find yourself with a job interview.<br /><br /><br /><br />In addition to solving a problem (see list above) that the company currently has or will have in the near future, considering you might actually save them money. <br /><br />How? If you are the right candidate to help solve a problem or address a specific issue, they will not have to pay a recruiter, or place any ads on Monster.com, or in dozens of newspapers. - Everyone wins!<br /><br />Commando Tactic #3 - Answering blind ads lessens your competition.<br />Many people think that answering blind ads opens yourself up to the possibility that you might be sending your cover and resume to your current company. While there is that possibility, the ad hopefully gives you enough information to recognize it as your won company. <br /><br />What most job hunters don't realize it that blind ads will usually only get about 50% of the responses that a traditional ad would get. What that means is that you are competing with half the number of people you normally would. This essentially doubles your chances of having your resume and cover letter selected for a follow-up phone call.<br /><br />Commando Tactic #4 - The best time to answer an ad?<br />Be the last resume received. I made it a habit of sending in my cover letter and resume 2 weeks after the ad ran. By then I knew I was not competing with 500 other resumes that were sent in right away. My information got more time because the hiring manager did not have to read 499 other resumes the same day.<br /><br />Commando Tactic #5 - Answer ads twice<br />If you never hear from a company where you sent in your resume, send another cover letter and resume in about 2 months. Many times, the position was not filled because there was no qualified candidate or the company and candidate could not come to terms on a compensation package. This means they have to start from scratch. Do you feel you are weak in any of these areas? If so, then strengthen them by attending courses or reading some relevant books. Being strong in all the above areas is not necessary for personal success, but will help to make it much easier.<br /><br />Look at the list of things you are passionate about, and think about how the above skills can be applied to and compliment these.<br /><br />Finding your ideal <em><a href="http://ujoinfree.com/?id=397" Target=blank><strong>career</strong></a></em><br /><br />Now, back to the list of things you are passionate about. Take a new sheet of paper and write the first item on your list at the top of this new paper. Underneath it, brainstorm all the jobs you can think of that involve your passion. Let your imagination run riot and be as creative as you can. Each item you have written down offers you many possibilities. Also use the reasons you enjoy the item to help in this exercise.<br /><br />Using gardening as an example, you could write down: gardener, author, teacher, TV presenter, landscape designer, tree doctor, and farmer, park ranger, and so on, just to mention a few.<br /><br />Still on the same item from your list, write down all the ways you can think of to make money from it.<br /><br />With our gardening example this may be growing and selling plants or vegetables, or doing gardening for people in your neighbourhood. There are of course many other opportunities here. Be creative and imaginative and think outside of your normal box.<br /><br />Look at all these ways of making money and note the ones you can start right now and ones that you would really like to do. Perhaps you could start on one or two of these now, whilst still working in your current job.<br /><br />Repeat the above exercise for each item that is on your list. Over the next few weeks keep adding to these lists. This exercise stimulates your mind to be creative, which results in creating many more great ideas – often when you least expect it, so make sure you write them all down.<br /><br />The results of these exercises will be a list of what you enjoy doing, why you enjoy doing and a list of possible <em>careers</em> and money making opportunities that you would gain pleasure from. You do not have to make a massive move and quit your job right now. You can take your time, and slowly begin building your own business, or just earn a bit of extra money to help pay the bills whilst keeping your current job. You can also use this list to determine what <em>career</em> is best for you and begin planning a move to this new <em>career</em>.<br /><br />Ask yourself the question, “If I could do anything at all, what would it be?” The answer to this question will help you determine which of the items on your list to pursue first. It is important not to spread yourself too thinly otherwise you may find that nothing ever gets done. This article has been written in response to those millions to give them hope and to show them a way out.<br /><br />At this stage you might be wondering, “What exactly is a drop-out?” The way I define a drop-out is as follows:<br /><br />“A ‘drop-out’ is someone who realized that they were stuck in a system (be it school, university, a job, the government or whatever) where they could not do what they wanted to do and didn’t have the freedom to follow and achieve their dreams. So they decided to ‘drop out’ of that system in order to follow their life’s dream.”<br /><br />This is how I will be using the word “drop-out” for the remainder of this article.<br /><br />From my research and from what I’ve seen in my own life, I have discovered that there are three essential ingredients for achieving success in any undertaking – Passion, Action and Determination.<br /><br />Passion refers to the motivation that is behind anything you do. Before you can show any significant progress in your life, you first need to figure out what exactly your passion or purpose in life is. Many people get stuck on this most crucial step, and therefore don’t achieve anything noteworthy in their lives. But it doesn't have to be that way.<br /><br />Here's a simply way of figuring out what your passion or calling in life aught to be...<br /><br />Make two lists. One with all the things you love doing, and one with all the things you love giving to people. Then, once you're finished, simply start combining the items from the first list with the second, and before you know it, you'll have multiple "<em><a href="http://www.careermorph.blogspot.com" Target=blank>career</a></em>" options that you can pursue with a passion.<br /><br />Once you know what your purpose in life is, the “doing” part becomes the natural next step. But the problem is that most motivational books and courses only teach you about motivation, and then, for some reason, don’t tell you anything about how you can achieve what you want to achieve. But the greatest achievements could be summed up in one word - Action. You've gotta take massive action. Once you know what you want to do, waste no time in getting into gear and start doing whatever it takes to help you realise your passion.<br /><br />Once you are motivated and are doing what you need to be doing to achieve your dreams, it is time for the final ingredient - Determination. Very often, we see people who are passionate about what they are doing and they even know what they need to do to be able to reach their dreams, but then reality strikes, they are confronted with a failure or two and they suddenly give up on their life’s dreams. This is really where you need to apply persistence to it's n'th degree. That's how all great fortunes have been amassed. Just talk to anyone who has amounted to something, and they'll tell you that they never ever gave up, even though things got really tough at some stage.<br /><br />I strongly believe that each and every human being has the ability to live a happy, healthy and prosperous life, but that they don’t always know how to do it. That is why I wrote a book called "Millionaire Drop-Out Secrets". I also was once stuck in a system where I felt unfulfilled and didn’t feel like I had any direction in my life. He was pleasant, energetic, knew his stuff too; all good qualities to have, especially if you're self-employed.<br /><br />We started out well enough. We talked about his long-range goals as well as his current circumstances, exploring how they might influence each other. When I learned that he had no real savings, I recommended that he begin putting away at least 10% of his income. Well, that's when things took a left turn. He became quite irritated and told me that there was absolutely no way he could do that; every penny he and his wife brought in was already allocated and they just couldn't afford to hold on to any of it. Everything he said thereafter just demonstrated all the more that he really NEEDED to have some savings cushion: his wife's position was not secure; the business she worked for may be folding, they had just had a baby. Despite my best efforts, he was not willing to consider putting his family's security on the front burner. Instead, he decided not to hire me as his coach, because he said, "I wasn't the 'right kind.'" Hmmmm.<br /><br />I've seen businesses come and go and those who cannot handle the money at home typically take the same habits into their business and before they know it, they become a failure statistic. So, regardless of how you are employed (employee vs. self-employed), saving money is smart for some obvious and some not-so-obvious reasons:<br /><br />Working becomes more FUN! If your entire paycheck is spent on basic survival needs, going to work every day can be very depressing. <br />Saving a portion of your hard-earned dollars is empowering because the decision is made not only by you, but also for your benefit. <br />There is an excitement that comes from watching the savings account grow. And when we see our dollars grow, we become more conscientious in our spending habits. <br />Taking care of self brings about a sense of freedom. If you find yourself in a difficult situation where you feel your values are challenged, you are more likely to say so if you have been taking care of your self in other ways. Regardless of the degree of difficulty, or who the person across from you happens to be (like your boss?), you will be truer to yourself and more direct with others. The act of self-care and financial responsibility promotes personal freedom. <br />Many financial experts recommend investing at least 10% of our gross income into something that can actually make money. That means finding an investment opportunity that will earn money for you on your behalf. Some people choose real estate, some the stock market; if that's just way too risky for you, then consider bonds or some other safe investment. When we are truly fiscally responsible, we do not do things that can jeopardize our financial health. More to the point, we will not forego saving or buy things we cannot afford because we are fully knowledgeable of our financial circumstances and responsive to our best interests. We live within our means. <br />One secret to success is modeling what other successful people do. Most every successful person I've ever met saves at least 10% of their income and invests it. Create your own success story. <br />I cannot tell you how many times people have looked at me, given me an impish grin and said, "I wish I could do that, but I barely make my bills as it is." The truth of the matter is that you will never miss $1.00 out of $10.00 or $10.00 out of $100.00. Do you wish you were? Take it slowly and make sure what you really want to do is change careers. Then use this 10-step plan, and you will be on much more sure footing -- and on a path toward career change success. Finally, remember that career change is a natural life progression; most studies show that the average job-seeker will change careers (not jobs) several times over the course of his or her lifetime. <br /><br />Step 1: Assessment of Likes and Dislikes. A lot of people change careers because they dislike their job, their boss, their company. My father would say work hard for your company for so many years so you can retire with a pension. So when you retired the company still paid you a percentage of your salary. Now I bet allot of you never heard of a pension. That's because companies have phased them out and now you pay for your own with a 401k plan. Their is no loyalty to a company or employee like in the good old days. Back then people got a job and stuck with it and companies rewarded you with a pension. I had a "career" in the airline industry. I was proud of my job and my company, my career. As the years went by my salary increased with my years of service. I spent 17 years and was expecting to retire, flight benefits and a nice 401k with company match. Yeah! Cutbacks, downsizing and my choice was stay and work for half my salary or quit. Now that was real loyalty...Soooo I took the furlough which paid me one weeks salary for every year of service and bye-bye. In my family I worked full time and my wife worked part-time. The only difference was her salary was more than mine..Now she's full time and I'm Mr. Mom. I don't want to get into that experience right now..Fun at first but what an ego bruise. So over the last few years I've worked part time and read everything I can about working on the Internet. I've met allot of interesting marketers, but one stands out. His name is Mike from <em><strong><a href="http://profit.netsalaries.com" Target=blank>Profit Lance</a></strong></em>. Extremely nice guy that's actually willing to help. But you should visit his site. You'll be glad you did...The moral of my story is to have a backup plan. Add another skill to your resume. When I was in high school everyone used to make fun of the guys who took shop. They were going nowhere. I wish I took shop. Good money and lot's of opportunities for another skill. You need something to fall back on or even use it to change course of have a "Careermorph". That's all for now. Plan for the challenges we may face. What does that mean? Income that you can earn apart from the regular income coming in from your job or normal work. This money can be used to payoff your outstanding debts or build up a capital account or spend it on luxuries that you could only think about before. Everyone seems to want a second income but no one wants to work a second job, so the extra income is normally seen as a windfall.<br />When we compare income levels in different countries, it is evident that the average income per person is less than $15,000 a year--in other words, where many people are near the breadline -- Extra Income really does make people happier and improves their lifestyle.<br />But countries which have average income above the normal subsistence level of approximately $15,000 a year, happiness seems to be income independent. For example, an average American ranks richer than an average Indian or an Austrian, but also less happy. <br />Why does this happen? People always look at their income relatively with some norm and the norm keeps rising all the time. And this norm is what increases the spending, more or less in direct proportion to the income. Two things drive up the norm with which people compare their incomes. One is the income that they themselves have experienced -- which creates a higher standard of living. And the other is the income that their colleagues or neighbors get, and which they try to outdo.<br />The extra income options available today are targeted to generate employment and are targeted specifically at people who can use their skills that are lying dormant to make some more money for themselves. To achieve a moderate success in generating an extra income one should be aware of their strengths and weaknesses. This would greatly help in selection of a most suitable way to generate extra income.<br /><br />The selection process consists of logical steps. First, one should ask themselves an honest opinion of their strengths, what they excel at? What do people around them keep complimenting or criticizing them on?, are they perfectionists?, For example, if you are computer literate you could help your neighborhood in upgrades, repairs or installation of software.<br /><br />The extra income can also be generated by doing extra seasonal chores like raking leaves in the fall or clearing snow in winter. These are just a few ideas, but making an extra income together with self analysis will take away the need for a second job. <br /><br />Today the internet and the general market have a lot of ideas for generating extra income. Network marketing in general market terms has been successful to some extent. Internet offers something similar that is affiliate marketing. The internet also offers a host of other options like writing, advertising and simple technical non-technical jobs which can highly increase your regular income. One reason is that their talents are wasted because it is not applicable for their current jobs.<br /><br />That's just one problem. You might have unreasonable demands placed upon you. You have to work really long hours to get anywhere. The paths to promotion may be blocked. You cannot get to where you want to be because of the view that people have of you, your experience, or your performance in the job.<br /><br />Maybe a little self-improvement will help you out with that problem. You should know how to appreciate your job if you want to succeed in life.<br /><br />If you are always late to your job, maybe it will become the reason for your termination. Why don't you try to wake up early or if you're always experiencing traffic, try to find another route. Self-improvement of your habits will help you succeed.<br /><br />There might be criticism leveled against you that's not just. There could be too much politics or backstabbing, you have to grease the right palms to get ahead. The job may not be what you expected. You were promised one thing, but it turned into something else.<br /><br />One thing that you should do about backstabbing is always retain your temper at the right level.
